Iron Bones! (Carrizo Plain, where time stands still. Old farm equipment rusts away, sitting like ancient bones in this remote National Monument.)
Across the Carrizo Plain (An old road leads to an abandoned homestead - the low line of hills in the far distance are part of the San Andreas fault zone that runs through the northern side of the Carrizo Plain.)
January 9, 2005 (A diamondback rattler slithers across Soda Lake Road, in Carrizo National Monument. On the afternoon I made this photograph, all of three cars went by in 30 minutes, as a friend and I waited for the snake to safely cross the road.)
