Indian Country 2004 - Photo Trip Diary

In November, 2003, I traveled and photographed along some of the roads found on the colorful "Indian Country" map, published by the Automobile Club of America. The route made a rough circle, starting and ending in Albuquerque; in between our photo group visited the Acoma pueblo, Canyon de Chelly, Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, and the Jemez pueblo. We'll do it next year, too - contact me for details.

Acoma, the Sky City, is a pueblo perched atop a red rock mesa. Our group took the mandatory bus up, but most of us decided to make the optional hike (climb?) down the narrow defile that led back to our vehicles.
Acoma is noted for its beautifully detailed pottery.
The Acoma pueblo, in New Mexico, dates back perhaps more than 900 years.

These cats hang out at the Hubble Trading Post, the most historic and still functioning trading post in the southwest.

Tech note: I did a little experimentation with Photoshop to equalize the light and dark portions of the picture.
