I conducted a photo tour of the Navajo Nation in mid November, 2014. We explored Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, the Chukka Mountains, remote and rarely visited Coal Mine Canyon and we traveled to a few locations in Utah. The sandstone scenery was spectacular, and we enjoyed some spectacular autumn color.
We also connected with people.
One of the people we met was Teddy Draper, Sr., who is one of the famous "Code Talkers" of World War Two. Draper and his fellow Navajos translated battlefield radio commands from English to Navajo to English again. While the enemy could listen in to radio transmissions, they couldn't translate them. We met Mr. Draper on Veterans Day.
